I can't believe this is my 300th blog post! I'm so excited to reach this milestone, so we're celebrating with this creamy and dreamy Nutella Ice Cream recipe. This tasty ice cream is swirled with peanut butter, toffee, banana, and anything your little heart desires. If you want to get a little crazy, serve it with Salted Caramel Sauce.

Why This Recipe Works
Lately, I’ve been going through a Nutella phase. Don't we all do that at some point in our life? Every morning I grab a banana, crunchy peanut butter, and a jar of Nutella. I slather crunchy peanut butter and Nutella on the banana, take a bite and repeat. Best. Breakfast. Ever!
This daily ritual is actually what gave me the idea for this Nutella Ice Cream Recipe. You’ll love the simplicity of this recipe. The ice cream maker will work way harder than you will, I promise!
Although I used an electric ice cream maker to make this Nutella Ice Cream, the recipe can easily be modified for other ice cream makers as well.
This four-step Nutella Ice Cream recipe is as easy as dissolving sugar and Nutella in warmed cream, and once cool, churning it in an Ice Cream Maker. Then comes the fun part, adding your favorite mix-ins! I added bananas, peanut butter, and toffee. What will you add?

Recipe Ingredient Notes
Nutella —Nutella is a key ingredient, so obviously, you can't leave it out. If anything, you might want to swirl some extra Nutella in during the last 5 minutes of churning.
Peanut Butter — I like including crunchy peanut butter in this recipe, but if you prefer creamy peanut butter, go for it. Also, you can substitute cashew butter or mixed nut butter. If you're looking to cut calories (sorry, wrong recipe 😉) think about using low-fat peanut butter instead.
Cream and Half and Half — Cream comes in various options. If possible, use 30% whipped cream instead of 36%. Whole milk may be substituted for Half and Half.
Mix-ins — Mix-ins are my favorite part. This is where you get to be creative. There are so many options! For example, brownies, blondies, chocolate-covered almonds, cookie dough, walnuts, or peanut butter cups. Your ice cream, you decide!
How to Make Nutella Ice Cream
Step 1
Pour Half and Half and cream into a saucepan, then add sugar. Whisk over low to medium heat until the liquid is warm and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the stove and whisk in Nutella. Cool in the refrigerator until ready to make the ice cream.
Step 2
Set a timer for 15-minutes. With the machine running and the attachment in place, pour the Nutella cream mixture into the bowl.
Step 3
When the timer goes off, set it for an additional 5-minutes. Add the vanilla extract, peanut butter, one spoon at a time, frozen banana slices, and toffee bits. Churn for five minutes.
Step 4
When the timer goes off, turn off the ice cream maker and transfer the Nutella ice cream to a lidded container. Freeze until thick. Or, if you don't want to wait, enjoy your Soft Serve.
Recipe FAQs
Although I've never seen Nutella Ice Cream in the stores, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. As a matter of fact, I did read in this HuffPost that Carvel Ice Cream did create four Nutella Ice Cream flavors back in the Summer of 2014.
The four flavors were only available from June until September 30th of that year as a celebration of Carvel's 80th anniversary and Nutella's 50th anniversary.
Nutella Ice Cream was brought back by Carvel the following year by popular demand, but again for a limited time. But guess what? You don't have to wait for the next release when you have this delicious Nutella Ice Cream recipe!
I actually find this question kind of silly because what exactly is "leftover Nutella?" But inquiring minds want to know so I'm happy to oblige.
Nutella can be used in so many ways. Here are just a few ideas on what to make with Nutella besides making this Nutella Ice Cream recipe: Nutella cookies, Nutella Brownies, Nutella Pancakes, and even Nutella Mug Cake!
There indeed is a way to make Nutella Ice Cream without an ice cream maker. One popular way is to replace the sugar with sweetened condensed milk.
The heavy cream is whipped until soft peaks form, which should take approximately 3 minutes. From there, the condensed milk and Nutella are combined and folded into the whipped cream.
The Nutella Ice Cream is then frozen for 6 hours before it's ready to enjoy.
Expert Tips
- Churning the ice cream longer than 20 minutes might result in a buttery film that coats your tongue when eating the ice cream. This happens when heavy cream is over-whipped. As the fat and milk separate, butter and buttermilk are produced. Setting a timer helps you avoid over churning the ice cream.
- If you would like a more prominent banana flavor, add 1 teaspoon of banana extract in step 3.
- Nuts are a wonderful addition to this ice cream. You can either mix them in during the last 5 minutes or sprinkle them on top. Crushed hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans, and cashews are all great options.
- To keep everyone happy, sprinkle the nuts on top of the ice cream instead of mixing them into the ice cream. Especially if you have someone who is allergic to nuts.
