This refreshing & fizzy coffee soda is the perfect way to start your day with a caffeine kick! While you're enjoying your coffee break, enjoy your carbonated coffee with a lemon blueberry scone! I used my SPARKIN™ Soda Maker in this recipe, but you can also use club soda!

You may be thinking, "Carbonated coffee?! Why!?" and if that's you, let me settle your curiosity. YES! Carbonated coffee is a great way to enjoy your morning brew. I like to think of it as a "grown-up" Italian soda (or an Italian cream soda if you add a splash of cream).
While adding carbonation to coffee may seem like a weird idea to some, the delightful little bubbles really make for an interesting way to enjoy your favorite coffee.

🛒 What You Need For This Recipe
🔖 Ingredients & Substitutions
- Iced coffee: I used regular coffee, but you can use your favorite type of coffee including cold brew coffee. Or, use a shot of espresso and make it an espresso soda.
- Sparkling water: You can use club soda, seltzer water or any flavored sparkling water that would go well with coffee. Coke also works great! If you're lucky enough to have a SPARKIN Cold Soda Maker, you can make sparkling water instead!
- Ice cubes: Coffee ice cubes work great if you want even more caffeine and coffee flavor.
- Simple Syrup: You can boil equal parts water and sugar to make a basic homemade simple syrup, or try a flavored simple syrup like lavender simple syrup, Earl Grey syrup, or honey syrup. You can also use a sugar-free sweetener to cut down on calories.
- Creamer (optional): I like salted caramel-flavored creamer but you can use whatever you prefer.
- Syrup (optional): I used cherry-flavored syrup, but hazelnut, vanilla, or any syrup flavor you prefer will do.

🤷🏻♀️ FAQs
You can absolutely mix soda and coffee! It works best as a cold drink served over ice, and it's very refreshing!
You can, and you should! Mixing Coke and espresso really brings out the warm, malty flavor of the Coke, and the Coke adds a refreshing fizz to the espresso!
🥤SPARKIN Review
I would like to disclose that this is a sponsored post. I was gifted a Glacier Fresh SPARKIN™ Soda Maker in return for my honest review. We may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you if you buy through a link on this page.
SPARKIN™ is a unique & efficient soda maker that is designed to produce soda water that is not only bubbly, but cold and refreshing straight out of the machine!
Like with any soda maker, you'll need a Co2 canister for the machine. It's very easy to install, and the only other part that requires installation is the carbonation handle, which is just as easy. Assembly does not require any tools!
Would you like to save this recipe?
A good thing to note is that cold water will yield better results, so once installation is complete you'll need to fill the tank and leave the machine to chill the water. I recommend letting it sit overnight to ensure the water is as cold as possible.
Once the water is cold, you just have to press the button on the front of the machine and watch the cold water trickle into the cylinder. Then just pull the carbonation handle and watch it work!
What I love is that there's a foolproof safety mechanism built into the machine so you don't have to worry about what happens if you hold the handle down for too long.
Pros:
I love that my SPARKIN chills the water, ensuring every glass is cool and refreshing! My refrigerator doesn't have a water dispenser or an ice machine, so it's great to finally have cold water at the ready without having to keep a bulky pitcher in the fridge.
Oh, and when I'm not in the mood for sparkling water, it can be used to dispense cold still water as well!
I fill my SPARKIN every night before bed, and when I wake up, I have at least an entire day's worth of cold, refreshing water waiting for me. Now, I live alone, but if you live with family or roommates, the tank is large enough for everyone to enjoy a cup of sparkling water with at least one meal.
The device itself is clearly well-built. It's sleek, not too bulky, and very sturdy. I have several other small countertop appliances that tend to wobble, but my SPARKIN doesn't have that issue at all. I'm very clumsy so I love that I don't have to worry about spills if I accidentally bump into it.
The best thing about this machine is the money you'll save in the long-run if you're a La Croix addict like myself. I love both unflavored and flavored sparkling water, so if you like yours with a hint of fruit you can get yourself some flavored syrups like the cherry-flavored one I used in this recipe!
Cons:
One thing I noticed is that sometimes one pull of the handle doesn't carbonate the water as strongly as I'd like it to, even on the highest setting. Not a big deal, as I just repeat the process until it's carbonated enough, but I will say I wish it was just a tad more powerful on a single pull.
Another con is that you can only use filtered water with your SPARKIN. I wish it were capable of carbonating other liquids as well, but I don't find this too much of an inconvenience as there are many drinks and cocktails that I can make with the soda water it produces.
Review Summary
No product is perfect, but I'd say the pros definitely outweigh the cons here. SPARKIN is a great investment in the long-run if you're someone who drinks a lot of sparkling water, and it takes up relatively little counter space. Overall, I think this is a great addition to any household!
