This lavender lemonade recipe is a refreshing twist on classic homemade lemonade, with a delicate flavor and just the right balance of sweet and tart. It's made with freshly squeezed lemon juice and homemade lavender syrup, which adds a subtle hint of lavender without overpowering the bright, citrusy flavor!

I currently have lots of lavender growing in my garden, and I've recently been drying some to use throughout the coming year. I've already been enjoying my 3-ingredient iced lavender latte and lavender shortbread cookies, so I thought I'd share another favorite lavender recipe with you: lavender lemonade! It's bright, refreshing, and has a subtle lavender flavor without tasting soapy, which can happen when you use too much lavender.
I use my homemade lavender simple syrup to sweeten this lemonade, giving it a delicate floral flavor without having to steep lavender directly in the lemonade.

🔖 Ingredients & Substitutions
- Lavender simple syrup: You'll need lavender, orange slices, sugar, and water to make this lavender simple syrup recipe.
- Lemons: 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice, about 4-6 lemons, depending on size.
- Water: 5 cups of cold water.
- Ice: Because nobody likes warm lemonade!
I also recommend trying it with a bit of hibiscus syrup!
🍋 How to Make Lavender Lemonade
Step 1: Prepare lavender syrup by simmering lavender, sugar, water, and orange slices in a small saucepan for 5 minutes. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes without the orange slices, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve or soup bag.
Step 2: Juice and zest lemons, then mix with cold water. Sweeten with lavender syrup. Start with ½ cup of syrup and adjust to your preference. I added ¾ cup. Serve over ice.
Recipe FAQs
Can I substitute dried lavender?
Yes! Since dried lavender is more concentrated than fresh, use less. If your syrup recipe calls for ⅓ cup fresh lavender, use approximately 2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender instead.
Can I make lavender lemonade ahead of time?
Absolutely. Prepare the lemonade a day ahead and refrigerate it until you're ready to serve. Wait to add ice, garnishes, or sparkling water until just before serving.
How long does homemade lavender lemonade last?
Store lavender lemonade in a covered pitcher or airtight container in the refrigerator for approximately 5 days. For the freshest flavor, I'd recommend enjoying it within the first few days.
Pro Tips
- If you don't grow your own lavender as I do, be sure to purchase culinary lavender.
- Add the lavender syrup gradually. Start with less, taste, then add more until you reach your preferred balance of sweet, tart, and floral.
- Chill lavender lemonade before serving. The flavors meld and mellow once the lemonade has had time to get thoroughly cold. Add ice just before serving so it doesn't become diluted.
- Lavender syrup often turns out pale amber rather than purple. A few blueberries can add natural color without dramatically changing the flavor.
- Replace some or all of the cold water in your lavender lemonade with sparkling water or club soda, adding it just before serving to keep the fizz.
