I always serve this honey mustard sauce as part of my Eastern dinner, especially with crockpot spiral ham, and for Christmas, with smoked prime rib. What can I say? I've never been a horseradish sauce kind of girl.
It takes a plain ham to a whole new level, but is surprisingly delicious with chicken and seafood as well!

- Mustard: Don't have Dijon mustard? That's alright, just use plain yellow mustard. If you like horseradish, add a teaspoon of that too to make the mustard spicier.
- Vinegar: Although I add red wine vinegar, you can substitute apple cider vinegar or white vinegar if you need to.
- Sage: Make sure to use rubbed sage in this recipe. You can usually find it in the spice aisle. Ground sage is a lot finer and usually tastes more bitter so I don't recommend using it. If you do use it, try ½ teaspoon before adding more. Try substituting a teaspoon of rosemary instead.

Basic sauce, but we liked it and will make it again. A couple of changes I made: more mustard (plain and grainy Dijon) and a little less honey. I will omit the sage, but that is a personal preference. Otherwise it turned out just fine, thank you for sharing your recipe 🙂

1 tbsp of dried sage seems like way too much. I have powdered dried sage. Is that what you used?

I use rubbed sage which is coarser. If you use powdered, I'd use half. You can even add less if you wish and adjust it after you taste it.

At the last minute, I decided to make a honey mustard sauce for our Easter ham. My husband and I are vegan but I had the ham for my stepson and his partner to 'snazz' it up a bit. Easy to make... 'normal' ingredients and great tasting.
We also had roasted carrots and it was great on those as well.
