Dill pickle chopped salad is the perfect healthy dish to satisfy that pickle craving we all get (or is that just me)? Time to get out those homemade zesty refrigerator dill pickles, or your favorite jar of pickles!

dill pickle chopped salad in bowl with lemon

This dill pickle chopped salad is easily one of my favorite salads EVER. It's briny, citrusy, and bursting with pickle flavor! The secret is the light & refreshing dill pickle dressing.

Enjoy it as a meal, or as a side dish along with Traeger smoked chicken thighs, elk burgers, or whatever you're having for dinner. You could even use this dill pickle salad as a sort of coleslaw and top a nice crispy chicken sandwich with a few spoonfuls!

    🧐 Why This Recipe Works

    • This is a nutritious and much more filling alternative to snacking on pickles, but it still satisfies that craving.
    • You can adjust this recipe to your liking by adding more pickles, less dill, more lemon juice, etc. It's really hard to mess this one up!
    • This dill pickle salad recipe is quick and easy to prepare and can be made in advance if stored in the fridge.
    • Homemade salad tends to be fresher than salad kits.

🛒 What You Need For This Recipe

    dill pickle chopped salad ingredients

    🔖 Ingredients & Substitutions

    • Butter lettuce: I used butter lettuce but you can also try your favorite leafy greens such as romaine lettuce, spinach, spring mix, etc.
    • Fresh dill: Dill weed can be used if absolutely necessary, but fresh dill is highly recommended.
    • Green onion: If you don't like onions, parsley would be another good option.
    • Radishes: You can also try red onion, cauliflower, or your favorite crunchy veggie.
    • Coleslaw mix: You can also use green cabbage, red cabbage, green leaf lettuce, or kale.
    • Lemon: Lime would be good too.
    • Feta: Sharp cheddar cheese, Colby jack cheese, or your favorite cheese can be substituted.
    • Mayonnaise: If you don't want to use real mayonnaise, try sour cream or better yet, yogurt!
    • Salt & black pepper: I used sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. You can also try garlic powder, dried dill weed, dried mint, etc.

Pro tip: For a spicy version, add some Tabasco or pickled jalapenos!

    🥬 Recipe Variations

If you want to add some protein to your salad, you can top it with hardboiled eggs, bacon, ham, or chicken.

You can easily turn this into a dill pickle pasta salad recipe by making a few simple changes. Instead of pouring the dressing over a fresh salad, pour it over a bowl of cooked orzo, macaroni, or your favorite pasta.

Don't forget to add the diced pickles, and maybe some diced celery too for added crunch! I recommend that you stir in cheddar or Colby jack cheese cubes instead of topping it with feta.

    👩🏻‍🍳 Pro Tips

    • Claussen kosher dill spears work really well for a salad like this as they're flavorful, crunchy, and easy to find at most grocery stores. If you're not sure which pickle jars to shop for, Claussen pickles are the best!
    • If you want some extra crunch to your salad you can add pita chips, croutons, or wonton strips, or, as a healthier option, diced celery or red onion.
    • If you make this salad ahead of time, store the salad in an airtight container and add the salad dressing right before you plan on serving the salad.

      Shlama Hilda!
I need this ! 🙂 It looks so good! Josh and I love pickles so much.

I have a question about your book. Do you have them at home? I suppose I could click on the link to find out. I still haven't had the chance aka money, to purchase it. But, I plan on doing that next payday. If you have them at home; would you autograph one for me? It's for my Godsister's wedding.

      blessings!
